Wendy Lou Jones

Wendy Lou Jones

Wendy was born in West Sussex, England, where she enjoyed a happy childhood filled with guinea-pigs and fun. She left home to study Medicine at Birmingham University, where she met her husband and became a doctor. They now live in a little village in Herefordshire, having raised two wonderful sons.

She discovered her love for story telling not long after her youngest started school. And if you were to ask her what made her make the switch, she would tell you quite simply, that it started with a dream.

Inside the Mind - Wendy Lou Jones

  • What inspired you to start writing?
It's corny, but it was a dream. Sad, I know, but true. I woke up so captured by the story, wondering what would have happened if I'd stayed asleep and how had I got there? I ended up writing it down.
  • Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
The last book I wrote was set in a hospital. A Piece of my Heart is a story about a woman in hospital and a visitor, meeting every day in the hospital cafe.
  • How do you create your characters?
My stories come from a specific idea. Then I work out what sort of person that would be most interesting for. Occasionally they have glimpses of people I have known, but mostly made up.
  • What does your typical writing day look like?
I have no 'regular' day. I may work 12 hours or none at all.
  • What has been the most rewarding part of being an indie author?
Creative control. Not having to conform to fit into a box. And being able to write a variety of things.
  • What’s one challenge you’ve faced in your writing journey?
Finding an audience. Those that read my stories tend to like them, but spreading the word is not easy.
  • Do you have any favorite writing tools or apps?
    Text to voice. Brilliant.
  • What advice would you give to new or aspiring indie authors?
    Remember, it's a marathon, not a sprint.
  • How do you handle book promotion as an indie author?
    Inadequately.
  • What’s next for you? Are you working on a new book?
I've spent the last 8 years screenwriting. I've learnt a lot. Time to write books again. And utilise all I've learned. But first, I re-edited, made audiobooks and new covers for my published ones.
