Ellis Grayson

Hi I'm Ellis Grayson a fresh voice in post-apocalyptic fiction, driven by a lifelong love for the zombie apocalypse genre. With no formal background in writing, I've stepped into the world of storytelling purely out of passion. After the Fall is my debut novel, a gritty, character-driven tale of survival, loss, and the fragile hope that keeps people moving when the world falls apart. Inspired by years of immersion in zombie films, games, and books. I bring a grounded realism and emotional depth to my work that I hope fans of the genre will appreciate.I am based in the UK, I spend my free time thinking up ideas and plots for my next book and mapping out the next nightmare for his growing cast ...

Inside the Mind - Ellis Grayson

  • What inspired you to start writing?
I have watched and read zombie movies and films for years and always wanted to have one set in Scotland. This is what drove me to create After the Fall.
  • Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
I'm a family man, several kids and enjoy spending as much time with them as I can. They take up most of my free time outside of normal day job.
  • How do you create your characters?
Some of them are fictional and others are based on people I know who gave me the thumbs up to include them
  • What does your typical writing day look like?
As I previously said, I have kids so most times I'm up into the wee small hours writing as kids take up most of my time.
  • What has been the most rewarding part of being an indie author?
I think knowing people are buying my work which in turn shows it must be decent.
  • What’s one challenge you’ve faced in your writing journey?
Definitely editing. Writing the book was easy, doing the editing was hard. Especially when you have to remove things you have wrote and then change things about to make it look perfect.
  • Do you have any favorite writing tools or apps?
    Not really no.
  • What advice would you give to new or aspiring indie authors?
Stick at it. It's worth all the hassle lol.
  • How do you handle book promotion as an indie author?
I've been using social media mainly for promoting my book. I hired a social media manager who mainly deals with it all.
  • What’s next for you? Are you working on a new book?
Yes I'm working on a follow-up to After the Fall. My first book ends on a cliff hanger so the second book follows straight on from the first
