As I developed the manuscript, I suddenly realized I had skipped an even more important step. I was writing about the problems that destroy marriages before I had written about how to build a strong marriage in the first place. That realization led me to pause the project and go back to write a foundational book for engaged and aspiring couples titled "A Guide for Young Couples Preparing for Marriage: Building a Strong Foundation for a Lasting Relationship." Only after completing that book did I return to finish "Issues That Kill a Marriage." It was important to me that readers first understand how to establish a healthy, God-centered relationship before learning how to recognize and overcome the challenges that can threaten a marriage. That experience taught me an important lesson as an author: sometimes the order in which we write is just as important as what we write. What began as a few personal notes quickly grew into something much bigger. I realized that writing gave me a way to organize my thoughts, explore real-life challenges, and offer practical and biblical insights that could help others. Those early notes became the foundation of my first published manuscripts. As a Christian counselor and ministry student, I have always believed that words have the power to educate, encourage, heal, and inspire. Writing became an extension of my calling, not simply to tell stories, but to address real struggles, challenge perspectives, and point readers toward hope and transformation. Today, every book I write traces its roots back to that moment when I discovered that even the smallest ideas, when nurtured with purpose, can grow into something that impacts lives.

I observe how people respond to pain, love, disappointment, forgiveness, fear, and hope. Those observations help me create characters who feel authentic because they reflect struggles that many readers recognize in themselves. Ultimately, I don't try to create perfect characters. I create human ones. Characters with flaws, contradictions, and difficult choices, because that is where the most powerful stories are born, and where readers often discover pieces of themselves.

I usually begin by reviewing what I wrote the previous day, making edits where necessary to ensure the story flows naturally and the characters remain authentic. I always ask myself, "How should the reader feel by the end of this chapter?" Once I begin writing, I try to immerse myself completely in the world of the story. Refinement comes during the editing process. Because I write across different genres, including Christian books, marriage and relationship books, counseling resources, and fiction, I often switch between projects. If I need a break from one manuscript, I may spend time researching, outlining another book, or editing an existing one. That variety keeps my creativity fresh. As a Christian counselor and ministry student, I also dedicate time to Bible study and reading. My faith continually shapes my thinking and often inspires themes of hope, redemption, forgiveness, and transformation that naturally find their way into my writing. At the end of the day, I measure success not by the number of hours I spent writing, but by whether I moved the story forward. Even one meaningful page is progress. Book after book, those pages eventually become manuscripts that I hope will encourage, challenge, and leave a lasting impact on readers.

Being an indie author has also taught me resilience. You're not just the writer, you become the editor, publisher, marketer, and often your own biggest encourager. There are challenges along the way, but every obstacle teaches you something valuable about perseverance and continuous improvement. Perhaps the greatest reward, however, is knowing that something I've written can make a difference in someone's life. When a reader tells me that a book helped them see a situation differently, encouraged them during a difficult season, or simply kept them thinking long after they finished the last chapter, that's far more valuable than sales figures or rankings. At the end of the day, I don't measure success only by the number of books I've published. I measure it by the number of lives I've been able to touch through the written word. If even one reader closes one of my books feeling inspired, encouraged, or transformed, then I believe the journey has been worthwhile.

Sometimes, the story itself teaches you that you've started in the wrong place. A good example is when I began writing Issues That Kill a Marriage. As I progressed, I realized I had overlooked an even more important book, one that should come before discussing the problems that can destroy a marriage. For my first drafts, I primarily use Microsoft Word because it's reliable, flexible, and allows me to organize large manuscripts with ease. I also make extensive use of ChatGPT, Gemini, CgatGPT etc as a creative and editorial assistant. They help me brainstorm ideas, refine dialogue, strengthen descriptions, identify plot inconsistencies, and polish my writing while ensuring that the final voice and vision remain my own. Research is another important part of my writing process. Whether I'm writing Christian non-fiction or fiction, I spend time studying historical, cultural, and biblical contexts to make my work as authentic as possible. Beyond digital tools, I still value one of the oldest writing tools available, a notebook. Many of my best ideas don't arrive while I'm sitting at a computer. They come unexpectedly, so I like to jot down character ideas, plot twists, memorable lines, or book concepts as soon as they come to mind. In fact, that's exactly how my writing journey began, with a few handwritten notes during my second year at Bible college. People often become interested in an author's journey before they discover the books themselves. One lesson I've learned is that promotion is not a one-time event, it's an ongoing process. Even books that have been published for months or years still deserve attention. Every new release also creates an opportunity for readers to discover earlier books in your catalogue. Most importantly, I try not to focus only on selling books. I focus on building relationships with readers. If people trust you as an author and appreciate the value you bring, they're much more likely to support your future work and recommend your books to others. As an indie author, I've learned that writing the book is an achievement, but introducing that book to the world is a journey that requires patience, persistence, and a genuine passion for serving your readers.
