What inspired you to start writing?
Growing up in a predominantly white town in Tennessee, I felt completely out of place and insignificant until I was allowed to take an Advanced Placement class in high school for English Literature. I absolutely fell in love with Shakespeare and poetry, and realized that I had a gift for the written word.

Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
I published Hurricane Helene Resiliency After the Storm Part One in August of 2025, which captures true-life stories of resiliency, loss, and the importance of community. Now, I'm working on Lift Our Voice: Abuse Survivors Speak Their Truth, where we're turning our pain into purpose by sharing it with others in hopes of helping someone. I'm also working on the follow-up to Butterfly Blossoms, Dragonfly Passion by Rachel Bleu.
-
How do you create your characters?
This is going to sound absolutely bonkers, but most of my book ideas and characters come from dreams. And when I sit down to write, I don't realize what I'm writing until I read it. I believe that artists and authors really do have a muse that guides them.
-
What does your typical writing day look like?
I work 12-hour shifts, so I can only write on my days off, which alternate each week. I write when I can and when I feel the urge. Normally an organized individual, I allow my body and mind to dictate when I write. I don't stick to any sort of schedule, but I do decide when I want to publish a book and then I work to make that happen every time.
-
What has been the most rewarding part of being an indie author?
The freedom to write what I want, when I want, and being able to dictate my own schedule.
-
What’s one challenge you’ve faced in your writing journey?
Being seen and standing out from the pack has been quite challenging. There are millions of books, and everyone is an author these days. I've learned how to stay relevant by regularly posting on various social media platforms. I've also been a guest on nine podcasts, and I continue to schedule more.
-
Do you have any favorite writing tools or apps?
I couldn't live without Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF, Google, and Canva.
-
What advice would you give to new or aspiring indie authors?
Speak your truth, follow your dream, and ignore the naysayers. Life is what you make it, and so is your writing journey.
-
How do you handle book promotion as an indie author?
I do most of my own book promoting, but I also use Goodreads.com to offer free book giveaways, AllAuthor.com to post on Instagram and Twitter, Google Ads, and a few other sites to help spread the word.

What’s next for you? Are you working on a new book?
Yes, I am writing two new books (numbers 5 and 6). Lift Our Voice: Abuse Survivors Speak Their Truth is nonfiction, and Dragonfly Passion by Rachel Bleu is adult LGBTQ fiction.
